Laws About Sacrifices

15 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, ² “Speak to the people of Israel and say to them, ^(A)When you come into the land you are to inhabit, which I am giving you, ³ and ^(B)you offer to the Lord from the herd or from the flock a food offering^[a] or a burnt offering or a sacrifice, ^(C)to fulfill a vow or as a freewill offering or ^(D)at your appointed feasts, to make a ^(E)pleasing aroma to the Lord, ⁴ then ^(F)he who brings his offering shall offer to the Lord ^(G)a grain offering of a tenth of an ephah^[b] of fine flour, ^(H)mixed with a quarter of a hin^[c] of oil; ⁵ and you shall offer with the burnt offering, or for the sacrifice, a quarter of a hin of ^(I)wine for the drink offering for each lamb. ^6 (J)Or for a ram, you shall offer for a grain offering two tenths of an ephah of fine flour mixed with a third of a hin of oil. ⁷ And for the drink offering you shall offer a third of a hin of wine, a ^(K)pleasing aroma to the Lord. ⁸ And when you offer a bull as a burnt offering or sacrifice, to ^(L)fulfill a vow or for ^(M)peace offerings to the Lord, ⁹ then one shall offer ^(N)with the bull a grain offering of three tenths of an ephah of fine flour, mixed with half a hin of oil. ¹⁰ And you shall offer for the drink offering half a hin of wine, as a food offering, a pleasing aroma to the Lord.

^11 (O)“Thus it shall be done for each bull or ram, or for each lamb or young goat. ¹² As many as you offer, so shall you do with each one, as many as there are. ¹³ Every native Israelite shall do these things in this way, in offering a food offering, with a pleasing aroma to the Lord.

The Ark Placed in a Tent

16 And they brought in the ark of God and set it inside ^(A)the tent that David had pitched for it, and they offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before God. ² And when David had finished offering the burnt offerings and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord ³ and distributed to all Israel, both men and women, to each a loaf of bread, a portion of meat,^[a] and a cake of raisins.

⁴ Then he appointed some of the Levites as ministers before the ark of the Lord, to invoke, to thank, and to praise the Lord, the God of Israel. ^5 (B)Asaph was the chief, and second to him were Zechariah, Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-edom, and Jeiel, who were to play harps and lyres; Asaph was to sound the cymbals, ⁶ and Benaiah and Jahaziel the priests were to blow trumpets regularly before the ark of the covenant of God.

¹³ Then he measured the temple, ^(A)a hundred cubits long; and the yard and the building with its walls, a hundred cubits long; ¹⁴ also the breadth of the east front of the temple and the yard, a hundred cubits.

¹⁵ Then he measured the length of ^(B)the building facing the yard that was at the back and ^(C)its galleries^[a] on either side, a hundred cubits.

The inside of the nave and the vestibules of the court, ^16 (D)the thresholds and ^(E)the narrow windows and the galleries all around the three of them, opposite the threshold, were paneled with wood all around, from the floor up to the windows (now the windows were covered), ¹⁷ to the space above the door, even to the inner room, and on the outside. And on all the walls all around, inside and outside, was a measured pattern.^{[b] 18} It was carved of ^(F)cherubim and ^(G)palm trees, a palm tree between cherub and cherub. Every cherub had two faces: ^19 (H)a human face toward the palm tree on the one side, and the face of a young lion toward the palm tree on the other side. They were carved on the whole temple all around. ²⁰ From the floor to above the door, cherubim and palm trees were carved; similarly the wall of the nave.

²¹ The doorposts of ^(I)the nave were squared, and in front of ^(J)the Holy Place was something resembling ^22 (K)an altar of wood, three cubits high, two cubits long, and two cubits broad.^[c] Its corners, its base,^[d] and its walls were of wood. He said to me, “This is ^(L)the table that is before the Lord.” ²³ The nave and the Holy Place had each ^(M)a double door. ²⁴ The double doors had two leaves apiece, ^(N)two swinging leaves for each door. ²⁵ And on the doors of the nave were carved cherubim and palm trees, ^(O)such as were carved on the walls. And there was ^(P)a canopy^[e] of wood in front of ^(Q)the vestibule outside. ²⁶ And there were ^(R)narrow windows and palm trees on either side, on the sidewalls of the vestibule, ^(S)the side chambers of the temple, and the ^(T)canopies.

Jesus Foretells Destruction of the Temple

^5 (A)And while some were speaking of the temple, how it was adorned with noble stones and offerings, he said, ⁶ “As for these things that you see, ^(B)the days will come when there will not be left here one stone upon another that will not be thrown down.” ⁷ And they asked him, “Teacher, ^(C)when will these things be, and what will be the sign when these things are about to take place?” ⁸ And he said, ^(D)“See that you are not led astray. For ^(E)many will come in my name, saying, ^(F)‘I am he!’ and, ^(G)‘The time is at hand!’ Do not go after them. ⁹ And when you hear of wars and tumults, do not be ^(H)terrified, for these things ^(I)must first take place, but the end will not be at once.”

Jesus Foretells Wars and Persecution

¹⁰ Then he said to them, ^(J)“Nation will rise against nation, and ^(K)kingdom against kingdom. ¹¹ There will be great ^(L)earthquakes, and in various places ^(M)famines and pestilences. And there will be ^(N)terrors and great ^(O)signs from heaven. ¹² But before all this ^(P)they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to ^(Q)the synagogues and ^(R)prisons, and you ^(S)will be brought before ^(T)kings and ^(U)governors for my name's sake. ^13 (V)This will be your opportunity to bear witness. ¹⁴ Settle it therefore in your minds ^(W)not to meditate beforehand how to answer, ¹⁵ for ^(X)I will give you a mouth and ^(Y)wisdom, which none of your adversaries will be able to withstand or ^(Z)contradict. ¹⁶ You will be delivered up ^(AA)even by parents and brothers^[a] and relatives and friends, and some of you they will put to death. ^17 (AB)You will be hated by all for my name's sake. ¹⁸ But ^(AC)not a hair of your head will perish. ¹⁹ By your ^(AD)endurance you will gain your lives.

Jesus Foretells Destruction of Jerusalem

²⁰ “But ^(AE)when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then know that ^(AF)its desolation has come near. ²¹ Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, and let those who are inside the city depart, and let not those who are out in the country enter it, ²² for these are ^(AG)days of ^(AH)vengeance, to fulfill ^(AI)all that is written. ^23 (AJ)Alas for women who are pregnant and for those who are nursing infants in those days! For there will be great distress upon the earth and ^(AK)wrath against this people. ²⁴ They will fall by the edge of the sword and ^(AL)be led captive among all nations, and ^(AM)Jerusalem will be trampled underfoot by the Gentiles, ^(AN)until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.

The Coming of the Son of Man

²⁵ “And ^(AO)there will be signs in sun and moon ^(AP)and stars, and on the earth ^(AQ)distress of nations in perplexity because of the roaring of the sea and the waves, ²⁶ people fainting with fear and with foreboding of what is coming on the world. For ^(AR)the powers of the heavens will be shaken. ²⁷ And then they will see ^(AS)the Son of Man coming in a cloud ^(AT)with power and great glory. ²⁸ Now when these things begin to take place, straighten up and ^(AU)raise your heads, because ^(AV)your redemption is drawing near.”

The Lesson of the Fig Tree

²⁹ And he told them a parable: “Look at the fig tree, and all the trees. ³⁰ As soon as they come out in leaf, you see ^(AW)for yourselves and know that the summer is already near. ³¹ So also, when you see these things taking place, you know that the kingdom of God is near. ^32 (AX)Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all has taken place. ^33 (AY)Heaven and earth will pass away, but ^(AZ)my words will not pass away.

Watch Yourselves

³⁴ “But watch yourselves ^(BA)lest ^(BB)your hearts be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and ^(BC)cares of this life, and ^(BD)that day come upon you suddenly ^(BE)like a trap. ³⁵ For it will come upon all who dwell on the face of the whole earth. ³⁶ But ^(BF)stay awake at all times, ^(BG)praying that you may ^(BH)have strength to escape all these things that are going to take place, and ^(BI)to stand before the Son of Man.”

³⁷ And ^(BJ)every day he was teaching in the temple, but ^(BK)at night he went out and lodged on ^(BL)the mount called Olivet. ³⁸ And early in the morning ^(BM)all the people came to him in the temple to hear him.

God's Provision

¹⁰ I rejoiced in the Lord greatly that now at length ^(A)you have revived your concern for me. You were indeed concerned for me, but you had no opportunity. ¹¹ Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be ^(B)content. ¹² I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and ^(C)hunger, abundance and ^(D)need. ¹³ I can do all things ^(E)through him who strengthens me.

¹⁴ Yet it was kind of you ^(F)to share^[a] my trouble. ¹⁵ And you Philippians yourselves know that ^(G)in the beginning of the gospel, when I left Macedonia, ^(H)no church entered into partnership with me in giving and receiving, except you only. ¹⁶ Even in Thessalonica you sent me help for my needs once and again. ^17 (I)Not that I seek the gift, but I seek ^(J)the fruit that increases to your credit.^{[b] 18} I have received full payment, and more. I am well supplied, ^(K)having received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent, ^(L)a fragrant offering, ^(M)a sacrifice acceptable and pleasing to God. ¹⁹ And my God ^(N)will supply every need of yours ^(O)according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. ²⁰ To ^(P)our God and Father be ^(Q)glory forever and ever. Amen.
